Both the inner and outer surfaces are smooth and the nominal diameter is exterior (ND/OD) so they are also suitable for connection to plastic Sewage Accessories, Inspection Chambers and Manholes.
Just as Nominal Pressure (NP) is the typical characteristic of pressure water or liquid pipelines, so is Ring Stiffness for non-pressure sewage pipes.
The Ring Stiffness of a compact plastic wall pipe depends on the pipe material and wall thickness. PVC pressure and solid wall pipes calculated with a Design Strength of sigma =12.5 MPa

In a sewage network without interior pressure, pipes are subjected to external loads due to the trench fill material and moving loads caused by traffic. These loads cause the pipe to deform, which leads to compressive stress inside the pipes and traction on the outside.
